Why should I study?
It is a good question. Many think studying the Bible is only for a select few, the clergy. This is not the case. In Matthew 7:24-25 Jesus said, “Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock” Life is filled with difficulties. The devil is seeking those whom he may devour. Time and chance are Biblical ideas. The Lord does not want you to fail. He wants you to be prepared. He wants you to not fall, and if you do fall, He wants you to know how to get back up (1 Jn. 2:1). We need to have ears to hear.
Faithfully
“Without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him” (Heb. 11:6). Faith is essential, and it is not given supernaturally or against our will. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God” (Rom. 10:17). Studying is a part of “receiving with meekness the implanted Word” (Jam. 1:21). The Lord wants you to be faithful, not doubtful. He wants you to be faithful, not fearful. He wants you to be faithful, and to grow in faith.
Following Him
“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is” (Eph. 5:15-17). We must find out what is acceptable to God (Eph. 5:10). There is a lot of deception in the world. There are those who claim to use the Bible, but are in fact twisting it (2 Pet. 3:16). We must hear God’s Word and apply it correctly (2 Tim. 2:15). We do not want to be blind leaders, or blind followers, for we know we are doomed if we are either. We study to make sure we are following the Lord and not someone else.
Doing His Will
“Therefore lay aside all filthiness and overflow of wickedness, and receive with meekness the implanted word, which is able to save your souls. But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves” (Jam. 1:21-22). We must be doers of the Word, but that will not happen if we do not hear the Word. If we are going to worship and serve in an acceptable manner to God, we need to know what His will is.
What about you?
We hope you will study with us. There are several tools on this website meant to point to God’s Word. Studying is not always easy, especially in a busy world, but it is worth it. You will be faithful. You will be following Him. You will be doing His will. The gospel is the power of God unto salvation (Rom. 1:16). Don’t take our word for it. Study for yourself.
